Targeted Action:
This product is intended for use in palm plantations (such as date, oil palm, coconut and Areca) to enhance catch rate of the insect Red Palm Weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus) and trap them in specially designed traps in conjunction with pheromone attractant for monitoring and mass trapping purposes. This is found to reduce the intensity of pest incidence, leading to a reduction in crop damage thereby improving the yields / output quality.
Product Description:
The Active Ingredient Ethyl acetate is a potent feed attractant (Kairomone) for males and females of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus. This Ethyl acetate is packed @20 ml per bottle which are placed in traps in the field. It is used in combination with aggregation pheromone to maximize catch rates of the pest.
Application Protocol:
The trap is to be positioned in such a way that it is half buried in the ground to the level of the side entrances or hung on tree trunks at a height of 1-1.5 mtrs. Traps should ideally be placed in shaded areas. Recommended to use one bottle of RPW-KAIROMONE per trap. One kairomone would last for 2 to 3 months depending upon climatic conditions. The trapping density should be adequate to manage pest infestation. The recommended trap density is 1-10 traps per hectare. If necessary open the bottle and pour the contents into the trap with other feed like cut palm fruit slices, date palms etc to attract the beetles.
